What happened to the USS Nassau?
The USS Nassau was retired in 2011 and currently rests in the Navy’s Atlantic Fleet “graveyard” in Beaumont, Texas, ironically a city hard hit by Hurricane Harvey and which the ship was powerless to assist.

How does a ship lose an anchor?
Anchors have also been lost when anchoring in too deep water and when attempting to stop a vessel as a last resort in a black-out situation. Gard also has some cases of anchors dropping out while at sea, obviously a result of inadequate securing.
