What I Wish I Knew 10 Years Ago: Lessons for a Better Life
What I Wish I Knew 10 Years Ago: Lessons for a Better Life
Introduction: If it breaks your heart but opens your eyes, take that as a win. Reflecting on my past experiences, I wish I had known some fundamental truths 10 years ago. Whether it's about the importance of time, self-acceptance, or the value of support from loved ones, these lessons can help us navigate life more effectively.
Valuing Time
One of the most profound realizations is how precious time is. I wish I had understood this earlier. I would have spent more time with loved ones and travelled more. I would have also taken more risks and not been so afraid of failure.
Self-Acceptance and Overcoming Challenges
Self-Acceptance: Accept yourself the way you are. Accept your flaws and allow yourself to shine just as you are. Nobody else can make you happy; it's you, always you.
Build Up Your Convictions: If you're tolerating someone again and again, be careful. You are teaching them how to treat you. Your apology needs to be just as strong as your disrespect was. Don’t trust blindly. Take care of your health because it matters. You matter.
Understanding Reality and Dreaming Big
Embrace Realities: Reality can destroy dreams, and dreams can destroy reality. Accept that people come and go, and move on. In the end, what helps you overcome obstacles is no one but your family. Never hurt them, and remember that the sacrifices they’ve made for you cannot be defined in words.
Inviting the Divine
God and Unconditional Love: There is a God, but it’s not you or me. It’s not man-made religion. All you need to do is invite Him into your life. If you give Him your problems, He will take them from you, but you must let go completely. God gives you tenfold whatever you focus on. God doesn’t recognize negative prayers, so instead of saying, “I don’t want to drink,” He hears, “I want to be free of drinking today.”
Reframing Your Prayer: If you declare yourself a victim, life will reciprocate. Tell God, “I’m free of this desire today,” and “I declare forgiveness and love for everyone and everything.” Focus on good and wonderful things, and you will receive them tenfold. Love, kindness, forgiveness, tolerance, patience, empathy, friendship, companionship, health, and connections are all gifts from the divine.
Mindfulness and Attitude
Attitude and Outlook: Guard what you are thinking. It is your attitude, outlook, and perspective of people, places, things, and your situation that pose the real problem. Maintain a positive and grateful mindset. Watch what your mind is telling you, and choose thoughts that enrich your life.
Conclusion: Reflecting on these lessons, it's clear that life is a journey full of challenges and rewards. By embracing self-acceptance, valuing time, and seeking support from those who matter most, we can navigate life's obstacles more effectively.
