Understanding My People: The INFP Journey
Understanding My People: The INFP Journey
As someone with the INFP personality, my closest friends and romantic relationships often fall into the following types: INFP, INFJ, INTJ. While we might not get along well with ENFJs, most of the 'N' types share our way of looking at the world, making conversations effortless. However, my relationship with someone who is ISFJ is rather awkward, although we enjoy activities together.
Fifth through Eighth grades in Catholic school were challenging, but reading and collecting music helped me define myself. We admire those who stand out, the unconventional, the oddballs, and the creatives. We connect with underdogs, artists, and smokers in special places. When music became popular, I discovered the Deadheads, a group that accepted me for who I was. It was thrilling to be part of a community that celebrated individuality, rather than fit into a mainstream mold.
Defining My Identity Through Music and Community
The music I discovered was far less mainstream and more open to unconventional tastes. This community offered a sense of belonging and acceptance that was invaluable. Despite the potential risks associated with certain unhealthy habits, being part of this community was much more exciting than being a 'nerd.' For many INFPs, such communities are where they truly feel at home.
Embracing Individuality and Spiritual Growth
Although we share some qualities, INFPs are complex individuals, each with their unique set of experiences and emotions. We are rare gems, here to inspire and show others how to dream big. Our desires to chase the impossible and maintain high ideals are what make us who we are. We joust with windmills, striving for the unattainable, because we believe it's possible if we have faith.
Life is full of highs and lows, and it took me a long time to realize that happiness is something we must create for ourselves. No one or nothing can make us truly happy; only we have the power to visualize and maintain our ideals. While the lows are undoubtedly difficult, it's crucial to remember that feelings never last. Our thoughts aren't always our own; they can be misleading. Therefore, we must remind ourselves not to get discouraged and to stay true to our own path.
Discovering Your Tribe
Your people will come to you when you're ready. Just as I found my community in the Deadheads, you too will discover your tribe. This journey is about understanding yourself, embracing your uniqueness, and finding others who value that same individuality. Remember, it's your responsibility to nurture your own happiness, and your people will guide you along the way.
