During my time at Manav Rachna University, I witnessed a strong emphasis on ethical research practices in the field of biotechnology. The Molecular Biosciences Research Centre and the Medicinal Plant Pathology Center played pivotal roles in promoting responsible research methods. The university’s commitment to biosafety, informed consent, and environmental sustainability was evident in areas such as genetic engineering and molecular biology.

Key Ethical Concerns in Biotechnology

Several ethical issues arise in the application of biotechnology, but perhaps the most critical concern is the manipulation of human embryos. Human embryos are regarded as full human beings with the right to develop into living individuals. Any form of manipulation is fraught with ethical dilemmas as it involves directly interfering with human life in an early and fragile stage.

Another significant ethical concern is the testing of biotech products on human populations without proper informed consent. This raises questions about the right to autonomy and privacy. Additionally, the use of human materials in developing biotech products, especially in practices such as cloning and organ harvesting, without informed consent or proper ethical oversight, poses profound ethical challenges.
